Companion Research · Manually Sourced
Private equity has spent eight years and $25B+ rolling up home-service trades nationally. 29 confirmed, individually sourced cases show that reaching Tulsa specifically, and every one of the fifteen trades tracked here now has a documented answer, including the one that came back independent.
The Idea
Every other research project on this site (Trade Data, Search Demand, Trade Clusters) pulls from a real government API: Census County Business Patterns, BLS QCEW, Google Trends. Business ownership has no equivalent. There's no public database that says "this HVAC company is owned by a private-equity fund" the way the Census Bureau says how many HVAC companies exist.
So this page works differently. Each row below is a specific, real transaction, verified individually against press releases, trade-press M&A coverage, or a company's own public statements: the same 15 trades tracked throughout the Trade Data project, checked one at a time for a confirmed connection to the Tulsa metro. A business doesn't need a physical Tulsa office to count here: if it serves the Tulsa MSA from somewhere else, that's still worth knowing, and it's labeled as such rather than left off the page. All fifteen tracked trades now have a documented answer: eleven through direct national ownership, three more through a locally-owned business operating under a private-equity-backed franchise brand (a real but different structure, covered separately below), and one, masonry, resolved the other way entirely: a confirmed, still-independent local business. Nothing here is left as an unexplained gap.

The Findings
Ownership type distinguishes three real, different things: a private-equity fund (an investment firm that buys, operates, and eventually resells the business), a large public or corporate consolidator (a publicly traded or family-owned conglomerate doing the same kind of buying, just not through a PE fund), and a confirmed independent (still locally owned, even if it's itself acquiring other local businesses).
Owner HQ matters because none of these are Oklahoma money: every confirmed owner below is headquartered out of state, one out of the country entirely (Zips Car Wash is the exception, now owned by a distributed consortium of institutional lenders rather than a single firm, see below). This is outside capital reaching Tulsa specifically, not local investors moving around.

Plumbing and HVAC contractors is now the single most consolidated trade tracked on this page (five separate confirmed cases) with Roofing contractors close behind at four. For HVAC: Tom Hundley Heating & Cooling, Airco Service and Air Assurance, Service Experts, Oklahoma Chiller, and Hendrick Heat, Air & Plumbing each answer to a different national owner. For roofing: Erie Home, Turner Roofing & Sheet Metal, Empire Roofing (a Tecta America company), and Infinity Home Services do the same. Between the two trades, that's nine separate transactions and nine different private-equity or public-market owners, headquartered from San Diego to Toronto to Memphis to New York. That's not a coincidence: HVAC and roofing are two of the single most actively targeted trades in the entire national roll-up wave, and this page shows exactly what that looks like once it actually reaches one metro area.
Pest control and landscaping aren't far behind: three confirmed cases each. Pest control alone shows every category this page tracks: Aptive (private equity, Bain Capital), Romex/Rollins and Terminix/Rentokil (both large public consolidators), and Massey Services (confirmed still family-owned, serving Tulsa from Orlando). Landscaping shows the same range: LawnAmerica's path through TruGreen (CD&R), SavATree's direct Tulsa branch (Apax Partners), and BrightView's Tulsa operation (publicly traded, no controlling PE owner today). Dentists, veterinary, and car washes each picked up a second confirmed owner in this same pass, and general automotive repair did too: the pattern holds almost everywhere this research actually dug in.
The Zips Car Wash row is the most concrete answer to "why does ownership actually matter." Its previous owner, private-equity firm Atlantic Street Capital, took on enough debt financing acquisitions ($654 million) that Zips filed Chapter 11 in February 2025 and emerged two months later only by handing ownership to its own lenders in a debt-for-equity swap. The three Tulsa locations kept operating throughout, but the company's owner today is a group of institutional creditors, not the PE firm that ran it eighteen months ago. That's not a hypothetical risk of debt-fueled roll-ups; it already happened to a business with three locations in this city.
A Different Structure
Franchising adds a real wrinkle the table above doesn't capture cleanly. Mister Sparky of Tulsa (electrical), Five Star Painting of Tulsa (painting), and HealthSource Chiropractic of Tulsa (chiropractic) are all, by their own description or franchise structure, locally owned and operated small businesses, not corporate locations, not acquired companies. Their franchisors are a different story: Mister Sparky's parent, Authority Brands, is owned by Apax Partners (the same firm behind Aspen Dental); Five Star Painting's parent, Neighborly, is owned by KKR; HealthSource's franchisor, Franworth, took a growth investment from Guideboat Capital Partners in 2022. The private-equity ownership sits at the national brand level (franchise fees, marketing systems, software) not at the Tulsa business itself, which stays locally owned. Worth knowing as its own category, not folded into either "PE-owned" or "confirmed independent" above, and the reason chiropractic isn't in the direct-ownership table despite being one of the fifteen trades resolved on this page.
The Contrast
Quality Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Electric (Glenpool) is family-owned (founded by Oscar Pound in 2009, still run by the Pound family) and has itself acquired at least two other Tulsa-area HVAC businesses, Frost Air Services and Reed Family Heating & Air Conditioning. That's a real local roll-up. It's just not a private-equity one, and conflating the two would have been the easiest mistake to make in this research: I checked, and I was wrong the first time I assumed the pattern held.
Dental Depot (Oklahoma City, serving the OKC and Tulsa metros) converted to a formal DSO (Dental Support Organization) structure in January 2020: the same corporate wrapper most PE-backed dental roll-ups use, but remains family-owned, founded by Dr. Glenn Ashmore in 1978. The DSO label alone doesn't mean private equity; this one didn't.
Atwell Roofing Company, Inc. (5528 S 49th West Ave, Tulsa) is privately held: purchased in 2008 by brothers Bryan and Brett (and their spouses) and still run by them today. Worth stating directly: a claim already circulating describes Atwell as "corporate backed," and this research found nothing to support that: no acquisition, merger, or institutional owner of any kind.
Massey Services (Orlando, FL) isn't a Tulsa company, but it serves the Tulsa metro and is the largest privately-held, family-owned company in pest control nationally: founded 1985 by Harvey L. Massey, still independent today. Included as a direct contrast to Aptive, Rollins, and Rentokil above: proof a major national operator in this exact trade can still choose not to sell.
Western Specialty Contractors (Tulsa branch, masonry restoration) took a third path entirely. After 110 years of family ownership, it became 100% employee-owned through an ESOP in 2025: a deliberate structural choice to preserve independence rather than sell into the roll-up wave hitting masonry nationally. Not private equity, not simply "still family-owned" either, worth naming as its own category.
Air Comfort Solutions (OKC-based, with a staffed Tulsa office at 12536 E 52nd St) is the correction this page most needed to make. An acquisition claim tying it to Apex Service Partners was circulating before this research started, but Apex's own published list of acquired companies doesn't include it, the company's LinkedIn page self-reports as "Self-Owned," and independent business-data sources name Ron and Judy Gregory as owners. Neither of its BBB profiles references a parent company. The likely source of the mix-up: a same-named but unrelated company in Chicago that did take on outside investment. Real Tulsa office, real service area, just not the PE-owned company it was described as.
The Method
No API, no bulk pull: every claim here is a specific transaction, checked individually. For each of the 15 trades tracked in the Trade Data project, I searched for a real, named Tulsa-metro business with a confirmed acquisition by a known national platform, then verified the platform's own ownership (PE fund, public company, or family-owned) against a second, independent source before it went on this page.
This will go stale faster than the rest of this site. Company ownership changes hands: platforms get sold to other platforms, funds exit and re-enter, family-owned companies take on investors. Every entry above reflects what was publicly confirmed as of September 2026. Treat this as a snapshot, not a permanent record, and re-verify before relying on any single row for a real decision.
"Private equity" and "large corporate consolidator" are kept deliberately separate. Mars (VCA's owner) is a family-owned multinational conglomerate, not an investment fund: grouping it in with Bain Capital or Clayton, Dubilier & Rice would blur a real distinction. Both represent independent local practices getting absorbed into a much larger, centrally-run organization; only one is "private equity" in the strict sense.
A business doesn't need a physical Tulsa address to count on this page: serving the Tulsa MSA is the actual bar. Coverall's commercial-cleaning support center is in Oklahoma City, not Tulsa, but its own site lists the Tulsa metro as part of its service area, so it's included above, clearly labeled as OKC-based rather than quietly treated as a Tulsa company. The same logic put both Hendrick Heat, Air & Plumbing and Air Comfort Solutions back on this page after an earlier pass wrongly cut them for being headquartered in Afton and Moore, OK: both actually run a staffed Tulsa office and market directly to Tulsa-metro cities, so geography alone was never a real reason to exclude them. What still gets left out is anything that doesn't serve Tulsa at all, even when the underlying deal is real: Oklahoma Roofing & Sheet Metal's acquisition by Tecta America is confirmed, but its market is OKC and central Oklahoma, with Tulsa apparently already covered by Tecta's separate Empire Roofing brand (included above); Omnia Exterior Solutions' backing by CCMP is confirmed too, but none of its eleven partner companies operate anywhere in Oklahoma. The Joint Corp (chiropractic) is excluded for a different reason: it's publicly traded with no controlling PE owner, and its three Tulsa-area locations are independently owned by local franchisees, it doesn't fit any category on this page cleanly, so it's left out rather than force-fit. A different chiropractic case, 100% Chiropractic, did fit, briefly. Backed by private equity firm Red Iron Group since June 2024, it ran a clinic serving Tulsa, Broken Arrow, and Owasso from December 2022 until it closed sometime in 2025, and the franchisor's own site no longer lists Oklahoma as a state it operates in at all. A real deal, just not a standing one, which is why the trade's confirmed case above is HealthSource Chiropractic of Tulsa instead, covered in the franchise section below. Full detail on all four excluded candidates in the downloadable dataset.
The finish carpentry row is the one that needed the most hedging. This trade shows almost no roll-up activity nationally: it's small-crew, relationship-driven work that doesn't fit the roll-up thesis the way HVAC or pest control does. The best sourced match reaching the Tulsa MSA is a millwork, moulding, and door-installation location in Broken Arrow run by Builders FirstSource, a large publicly traded building-materials company, not a standalone finish-carpentry contracting business. Included because it's real, sourced, and does offer installation services, but worth reading as the weakest fit on this page rather than a clean case like the others.
National context stats (capital deployed, platform counts, industry fragmentation) are drawn from industry M&A trackers and trade-press reporting cited in the downloadable dataset: real published figures, not this site's own calculation.
